Oprah Winfrey is recovering from hospitalization, says best friend Gayle King, while fans speculate weight loss drugs are to blame
According to her best friend Gayle King, who shared the news about her health with the world, media personality Oprah Winfrey was hospitalized due to mysterious “stomach problems”.
Concerns first emerged when the 69-year-old former talk show host was notably absent from a scheduled appearance on CBS this week. Over the years, Oprah has revealed her book club picks on “CBS Mornings,” but on Tuesday, June 11, she didn’t take center stage.
Instead, throughout the June 11 episode, King presented the book herself. Before speaking with writer David Wroblewski, who wrote Winfrey’s latest book for her book club, “Familiaris,” the host shared intimate details about Winfrey’s health.
Oprah’s friend of 48 years candidly revealed that the billionaire had been battling a serious stomach illness that had landed her in hospital.
“She had some sort of stomach illness – stomach flu – and there was content coming out of both ends. I won’t be too graphic,” King said. According to to TMZ. “Needless to say, she ended up in hospital due to dehydration, she had to have a drip, it was very serious.”
She noted that the producer of “The Color Purple” was “worried” that she couldn’t make it.
Some fans were upset that the previous “King Charles” host shared a lot of her pal’s private affairs.
Other published on X, “@GayleKing why don’t you simply say @Oprah was just sick. The world doesn’t need this visualization. Gayle King says Oprah was hospitalized with a stomach illness and that is “unthinkable.”
Others immediately linked Winfrey’s illness to her recent discovery concerning the use of weight-loss drugs.
“Oprah is reportedly in the hospital for stomach problems. People need to be aware of how dangerous Ozempic is,” wrote user X, together with a screenshot of the drug’s unwanted side effects. “Stop listening to these horrible people. There is always a price to pay for taking pills.”

Two others he wrote“This Ozempic kicks Oprah’s ass lol” AND “Ozempic side effects?”
Third comment he said, “#OzempicOprah should come as no surprise, Ozempic and the like cause diarrhea at all times of the day, including nighttime sleep pooping. Next time you look at Oprah and think about her weight loss at the expense of real diabetes patients, think about (poop emoji).”
In December 2023, Winfrey revealed that she was using weight-loss medications, a change in perspective from the one she had previously maintained.
Now he says he’s relieved that there are medications that help people lose weight and maintain their desired size.
“Making fun of me has been a public sport for 25 years. I was blamed and shamed, I blamed and shamed myself” – Winfrey he said in an interview with People magazine. “I was on the cover of a magazine and it said, ‘Dumpy, Frumpy and downright Lumpy.’ I didn’t feel angry. I was sad. I felt hurt. I swallowed my shame. I’ve come to terms with the fact that it’s my fault.”
Winfrey didn’t specify what drug she uses or uses, but popular weight loss drugs include Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro. Among them, Wegovy is the one stand-alone drug that has been specifically approved by regulators to be used for weight loss.
Conversely, the drugs Ozempic and Mounjaro were initially developed for the treatment of diabetes, but have gained recognition for his or her effectiveness in weight loss.
“Now I use it when I feel like I need it as a tool to avoid yo-yoing,” Winfrey continued. “The fact that there is a medically approved formula to manage my weight and stay healthy throughout my life is like a relief, a redemption, like a gift, not something to hide behind and be made fun of again. I’m tired of being shamed by other people, especially myself.”
Page Six spoke to a spokesperson who he stated that Winfrey was “recovering from a stomach flu and was placed on a drip for dehydration as advised by her doctor.”
They added: “She is resting and feeling better every day.”
According to King, Oprah is probably not comfortable sharing her health news publicly, but she hoped her best friend would not mind revealing the data to her fans, before adding that her friend was recovering and was expected to get well. that he would soon be released.
