Spirited Duo Stumps for the representation of blackness in luxury spirits

Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and civil rights activist Ben Crump met with Democratic and Republican members of Congress on Wednesday, June 5, to advocate for greater Black representation in the luxury spirits industry.

The hip-hop mogul took his legal battle against Suntory Global Spirits to Washington, D.C., where he met with congressional leaders at the Rayburn House Office Building to debate wealth gaps in the spirits industry. “It’s really exciting for me. I had the opportunity to meet with both sides today and I feel really good,” he said. “They disagree on a lot of things, so getting them to agree to meet with me was an achievement in itself.”

50 Cent continued. “My experience here was great. I went to talk to them about economic opportunities for everyone, and it’s really exciting. The response I received gives me the feeling that bright days lie ahead.”

Crump cited the business success of the Nineteen Fifties for instance of how he would help increase Black representation in the spirits industry.

“Mr. Jackson is one of the most successful Black entrepreneurs in America,” Crump said. “We are here today to talk about how he is trying to tear down barriers to equal access and equal opportunity to have a seat at the table in all industries.”

Rapper G-Unit’s day on Capitol Hill comes in the wake of his ongoing legal battle with Suntory Global Spirits. He accuses the company of embezzlement that cost him hundreds of thousands of dollars. 50 made clear his intention to fulfill with Congress, announcing his day in the nation’s capital on X and sending a warning to Suntory Global.

“You could change your name from Beam Suntory to Suntory Global Spirits but you still robbed him 🤷🏽‍♂️I just want mine,” he wrote in one other tweet. “Tell your friends at the DISCUS meeting that you didn’t follow the rules at all.”

However, 50 Cent’s visit to Washington sparked controversy after he told one reporter that he believed black men “identify with (Donald) Trump” ahead of the presidential election “because they received RICO charges.”
