Eddie Murphy Returns as Axel Foley in New ‘Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F’ Trailer
Eddie Murphy is coming back to Beverly Hills!
On Thursday, Netflix released the primary official trailer and first photos of the upcoming “Beverly Hills Cop III” sequel, “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.” Murphy will reprise his role as Detroit detective Axel Foley in the motion comedy, which also stars Taylour Paige, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Kevin Bacon, Paul Reiser and Bronson Pinchot.
“Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F” tells the story of Foley “as he returns to the beat in Beverly Hills,” reads the official synopsis provided by Netflix.
“When his daughter’s life is in danger,” he notes, “she (Paige) and Foley team up with latest partner (Gordon-Levitt) and old pals Billy Rosewood (Reinhold) and John Taggart (Ashton) to spice things up and uncover the conspiracy. “
It’s been 30 years since Murphy appeared on screen as Foley in 1994’s “Beverly Hills Cop III.” – said director Mark Molloy Entertainment Weekly in a recent interview that viewers will see “a different side of Axel Foley” in “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.”
“You have one of the greatest comedians, if not in my eyes, then the greatest comedian in the world,” Molloy said of Murphy. “An enormous a part of my job is creating space for improvisation to develop. I at all times wish to get what’s on paper, but when you’ve got someone like Eddie Murphy, you need to give him his freedom.
“When I look back at the movie,” Molloy added, “some of the funniest moments in the movie are when Eddie improvises and the audience loves it.”
Murphy may even produce the film alongside Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman. Screenwriters Will Beall, Tom Gormican and Kevin Etten wrote the sequel, which can be available worldwide on Netflix on Wednesday, July 3. “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F” may even highlight the stark differences between Detroit and Beverly Hills, as seen in the primary film.
“When we drove from Detroit to Beverly Hills, the cultural contrast that made Axel a fish out of water in the ’80s is still so stark,” Molloy told Netflix Hill. “They might just be the two most opposite places in America.”
