Packing for a vacation could be overwhelming, even in the event you’re a Type A planner. Fashion girls like me share this agony of what to pack, what to wear, what the weather shall be like, etc., often waiting until the last minute to pack all your outfit. Well, worry no more, we enlisted the assistance of a well-traveled and well-dressed expert to give us the information we’d like on our next big trip.

When she’s not hosting ESSENCE on the Met Gala or running her own successful community-driven organization EveryStylishGirl, Nana Agyemang is catching planes to the nice and cozy and tropical destinations of her dreams. Her dresses, swimsuits, shoes and more have been on our radar with every travel photo and video she posts on Instagram. While she often tags brands, we would like to know what’s behind her looks and how she effortlessly archives them after which applies them to our holiday wardrobes.

Think coherently, pack the fundamentals

The key to not over-packing is to start with the fundamentals. Think T-shirts, button-down shirts, shorts and so on. These shall be lifesavers if something goes unplanned due to weather or something else. Agyemang leans towards one-piece clothing for comfort and ease. It saves space when packing and maximizes the styling possibilities of day and evening dresses. “Styling a fashionable and chic wardrobe for a trip is all about comfort. I choose dresses with interesting cutouts, open backs, bold colors and prints. If I choose a one-piece suit, I have to make a statement every time,” says Agyemang.

Embrace color

A tropical vacation gives you the chance to rejoice with your style. If you have not added much color to your wardrobe yet, now could be the time. Agyemang recommends adding pops of color through pieces like a daring bucket hat or stylish sunglasses. If you have been loving color for some time, try adding a fiery red dress with cutouts or a brilliant green or yellow piece to match the nice and cozy surroundings. “I like to use colors when traveling; on the go it’s #NanaDoesColor or nothing else. I deeply believe that our beautiful melanin is supposed to shine and it would be a shame to hide it under dull clothes while on vacation.”

Accessories, accessories, accessories

Accessories have turn out to be my secret weapon for creating exclusive holiday styles,” says Nana. Layering and stacking your jewelry is your best friend when traveling, especially in the event you’re not the sort to pack a number of clothes or want it to be lightweight so you may take recent items home with you. Agyemang accessories add a final touch of sophistication to your outfit. She says that putting on jewelry at all times helps her. She also recommends an interesting hairstyle, whether it’s bohemian braids, freestyle braids, or another style you would like to try. “Even though my outfits are simple, my hair adds extra definition to my overall look.” Other accessories like hats and sunglasses, as she mentioned earlier, also can make or break your vacation look.

Next time you book a flight to Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Tulum, or wherever your dream destination is, remember the following tips from EveryStylishGirl’s Nana Agyemang to guide you in the precise direction. Looking good on vacation needs to be the least of your worries when traveling.
