Shaunie Henderson responds after Shaquille O’Neal fans attack her for quote about ever being in love with him
Shaunie Henderson struggles after fans of her ex-husband, Shaquille O’Neal, dragged her to query whether she ever truly loved the NBA legend, in her latest memoir “The Undefeated: Changing the Rules and Winning on My Own Terms.”
Henderson (49) and O’Neal divorced in 2009 on account of infidelity committed by the previous Los Angeles Laker. The former couple has 4 children – Amirah, Shaqir, Shareef and Me’arah; Shaunie also has a son, Myles, from a previous relationship, and Shaq has a daughter, Taahirah, with his ex, Arnetta Yardbourgh.
In “Undefeated,” Henderson wrote, “Looking back, I don’t know if I was ever truly in love with this man, but I fell in love with the idea of marrying a man with whom I had a family.”
The clip went viral on social media, and O’Neal — who admitted to cheating on his ex-wife in various interviews and in his 2011 memoir “Shaq Uncut: My Story” — responded to the clip on Instagram: writing“Trust me, I understand.” The 52-year-old also wrote: “I get it… you would not be in love with me wishing you all one of the best… all of the love. Shaq.
Even though O’Neal seemingly understood what his ex-wife meant by that segment, his fans weren’t as understanding. “Ignore this negativity. “Many love you” he wrote one fan.
Even “Underworld” actress Kate Beckinsale jumped into the fray, threatening to tear Henderson’s wig and writing, “Hey now. We all have a sociopath ex. I’ve got you – want me to drive over and grab a wig or two? I’ll… love you, man.
However, Henderson said her words were “taken out of context.”
“My book is my truth and when I talked to my friend yesterday, I thought I would form an opinion,” she added he said People Magazine. “And a comment from content without context will show you lots of human intelligence and lack thereof, right? Just that one quote I said had no context and unfortunately persons are taking my words out of context.
“I’m not a girl of words. I’m a girl with character and since I broke up with Shaquille, my character speaks for itself,” Henderson added. “This is my book, my truth and my legacy.” She also said she “cannot comment” on why her ex responded to the out-of-context social media clip.
“People don’t read, you know what I mean? “To love”, not… “to fall in love”… They choose the words they want. “Let me repeat: context is the most important thing,” she said.
Apparently referring to his response, she said, “Why would he run away?”
The “Basketball Wives” producer married Pastor Keion Henderson in 2022 and notes that marrying him made her realize the difference between loving someone and being in love.
“When you love someone, you love them, but falling in love with someone is a completely different feeling,” she said. “And I’ll be honest, I didn’t realize it until I found the love of my life now and I’m in this marriage. I say, “Oh my God.” It’s a different feeling.”
The mother of 5 also told the web site that she prayed that a fraction of her memoir “The Undefeated” would go viral, as she did “about everything.”
“I’ve been praying about it,” Henderson said. “I pray for everything. Listen, praying for things makes you quiet. So I go into what I call my prayer closet and even if it’s driving, it’s like when you feel like you’re getting emotional or you feel like you have to defend yourself, you just stop and pray and it will silence you and it will silence you will center and balance. This is definitely my favorite product.”
Henderson also talked about her latest memories during an appearance on “Tamron Hall” on May 7 and her relationship with Shaq today.
“Shaquille and I have a great relationship now.” he said Henderson. “And beautiful children. I wouldn’t change any part of my story. Not a single part…. My reward is now.”
