Shaquille O’Neal ‘understands’ ex-wife Shaunie questioning whether she was in love with him
Shaquille O’Neal understands his ex-wife’s feelings for him.
In his memoirs “Undefeated: Changing the Rules and Winning on Your Own Terms” Shaunie Henderson – formerly O’Neal – questioned the feelings she thought she had for the man she married in 2002, USA today reported.
“Looking back, I don’t know if I was ever truly in love with this man,” Henderson writes of O’Neal in her memoir published May 7. “But I was in love with the concept of marrying a person with whom I had a family. I fell in love with the concept of constructing a life together. I actually enjoyed spending time with him. The (NBA) road trips gave me a probability to be with my husband and experience life in the NBA for some time.
O’Neal made his decision Instagram on Wednesday with a message that gave the impression to be a response to his ex-wife.
“I understand… I wouldn’t fall in love with myself either,” he wrote. “I wish you all the very best. All love, Shaq. He captioned the post: ‘Trust me, I understand.’
The first couple has sons Shareef and Shaqir and daughters Amirah and Me’arah. They even have a son, Myles, from Henderson’s previous relationship, and O’Neal has a daughter, Taahirah, with his ex-girlfriend Arnetta Yardbourgh.
O’Neal admitted in his 2011 biography “Shaq Uncut: My Story” that throughout his and his ex-wife’s relationship, which began in the late Nineteen Nineties and ended in 2009 when Henderson filed for divorce, there was infidelity.
Henderson – now wife of Pastor Keion Henderson – shared in her memoir that while she “really enjoyed spending time with” O’Neal, their relationship ended because he was “trying to become a world-famous thirty-something multi-millionaire with thousands of women throwing themselves at him”, being at the identical time “husband and father”.

After publishing her memoir in January, Henderson said People Magazine she felt “nervous” sharing details of her relationship with O’Neal, but desired to clear up the general public’s “misconception” about her.
However, she said her ex-husband’s public admission of infidelity during their marriage “made it easier” for her to open up.
“I’m literally telling my story and my journey that he was a part of,” Henderson said, as reported by People magazine. “I was always a little nervous about it, but I think I did the right thing by sharing my story and not trashing it because that was never my intention.”
“Everything about Shaquille is always hazy because he is who he is,” she added, “and despite our history, no one ever wants to hear about something that might be considered disreputable.”
