“I used to braid my Barbie doll’s hair, create hairstyles, add beads and experiment with different styles,” says Susy Oludele. Now known for her work on artists corresponding to Beyoncé, Zoë Kravitz, Solange, Megan The Stallion and more, Oludele credits her approach to hair styling to her Nigerian heritage. “I was inspired by my mother. I draw inspiration from my roots and Yoruba culture,” he says. “I love braids, beads, curls and intricate parting lines.”
All she needed to do was quit her job as a housewife and pursue her dreams of becoming a hairdresser. She was watching her friend, Kathy Clarkecreate hairstyles that she “fell in love with and never looked back.”
After graduating from YouTube University, the self-taught hair expert attended Ferrara Cosmetology Beauty School. She later rented a chair for 3 years in a salon before opening her own, Susy’s hairin the heart of Flatbush, then opens a second location in Los Angeles.
Contact with customers is what drives her. “They bring a variety of experiences, perspectives and life lessons. Plus, many people mention that they also learn from me,” says Oludele. “The process of styling hair is not just about aesthetics; it is a spiritual and transforming experience. The added bonus is that you leave the salon looking great.”
Below, she talks about her favorite products, hair care suggestions and more.
Her hair journey
I grew up with natural hair, but after I was 17 I made a decision to make use of a calming product. I could not sustain with it, so my mom took me to the hairdresser to get haircut. I’ve been natural ever since.

We are using HBS Ouee hair oil, which has a helpful effect on the hydration, flaking and dryness of the scalp. Contains only pure essential oils. When it involves the edges we depend on Hairbysusy edge control, one in every of our bestsellers that lasts for twenty-four hours without causing peeling.
Her favorite hairstyles to do
I really like doing creative hairstyles like braids, beads and different styles because you’ll be able to turn your hair into art. It’s at all times inspiring to observe and create.
Her top hair health tip
Always moisturize your hair, wash it at the least once per week or every two weeks, sleep with a cap at night, and show your hair the love of watching it grow.
A myth about hair that she would love to debunk
I would love to dispel the concept that black girls do not have long hair. It’s not true. We were created to have long and healthy hair.
What she learned from her clients
I’ve learned that regardless of what stage of life you’re in, things can at all times get well. I actually have witnessed a few of my clients go from students to entrepreneurs and even grow to be doctors and lawyers.
How he lifts the spirits of his clients
I remind them that they were created for a purpose and it’s their responsibility to satisfy their destiny. No matter what hairstyle we create for you, always remember that beauty comes from inside.
