Yvonne Orji is working on a novel called Yaa Gyasi for television
Yvonne Orja’s next project is on the best way. The actress and comedian is working on Yaa Gyasi’s novel “Transcendent Kingdom” in her first collaboration with Sony Pictures Television.
How Deadline As reported, Gyasi’s novel tells the story of Gifty, “a neuroscientist training to study mouse behavioral patterns in the context of depression and addiction.” The novel switches between her upbringing as a first-generation Ghanaian in rural Alabama and her current life within the Bay Area as she embarks on a “methodical and spiritual journey to make sense of the suffering” she has witnessed.
“Even as she turns to science to uncover the mystery of her family’s loss,” the synopsis concludes, she longs for “aspects of her childhood faith and her struggles with the evangelical church in which she was raised and whose promise of salvation remains unchanged,” tantalizing since it is elusive.”
Orji, best known for her role as Molly on Issa Rae’s hit series “Insecure,” is an Emmy-nominated actress, comedian and producer. In addition to “Insecure,” she has created quite a few comedy shows for HBO and starred in movies equivalent to “The Blackening” and “Vacation Friends” and their sequel “Vacation Friends 2.”
