Discord eliminates Nintendo Switch emulator developers and servers

The battle with Nintendo Switch emulation is just not over yet. The creator has provided excellent Yuzu emulation software quit, shut up and pay up March 4, and now popular chat platform Discord is reportedly targeting accounts and servers belonging to other Nintendo Switch emulator developers.

According to , Discord disabled all the pieces related to Suyu and Sudachi, two Nintendo Switch emulators that were created after Nintendo busted the Yuzu Gang in early March. This applies to each emulator servers on the platform and accounts related to developers working on the software. The technology’s creators say they’ve only received “vague messages” from Discord about uploading content that allegedly violated mental property rights. The company’s director of product communications, Kellyn Slone, said the corporate follows normal processes for DMCA takedown requests.

“Discord responds to and complies with all legal and valid requests under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act,” Slone said in an announcement to . “In this case, a court order was also issued to remove these materials, and we have taken action in accordance with the court order.”

Sudachi developer Jarrod Norwell posted a photograph of the Discord email on X/Twitter on April 10. The email said Norwell’s account was disabled because the corporate determined he was “violating the (Discord) Terms of Service or Community Guidelines” for allegedly “(sharing) content that violates anyone’s intellectual property or other laws”. Norwell said no other information was provided and concluded that Sudachi did nothing fallacious. In fact, the emulator developers we spoke to said all of them worked hard to alter the code to be sure Eye of Nintendo wasn’t on them. It can also be questionable whether the existence of the Discord servers violated anything of the court order and how their removal is consistent with Discord policy.

It looks like Nintendo is not slowing down in its pursuit of emulation. was illegally downloaded over 1,000,000 times a full week and a half before its release on May 12, 2023, in a form that may only be played via such an emulation (before selling over 20 million copies this yr).
