Brandy Norwood Talks About Her Return as Cinderella in Disney’s ‘The Descendants: The Rise of Red’
Norwood originally played Cinderella in the 1997 TV movie and starred alongside legendary singer Whitney Houston, who played the fairy godmother.
Brandy Norwood, who played Disney’s first black princess as a teen, will reclaim her throne in revenge for her role as Cinderella in the upcoming 1997 Disney film. The veteran singer and actress will make her long-awaited return in “Descendants: The Rise of Red” this summer.
Norwood starred alongside legendary singer Whitney Houston, who played the fairy godmother to the long run princess in the ABC classic.
“Stepping into a new set of Cinderella’s glass slippers after all these years is like really coming home,” Norwood said recently Being. “I’m very excited to be a part of the next chapter for Auradon. “I am very excited to see the next generation step into these iconic roles.”
The fourth film part of the famous “Descendants” series tells the story of Cinderella’s daughter, Chloe (played by Malia Baker), who joins forces with the daughter of the Queen of Hearts. To prevent a catastrophic event from affecting their livelihoods, an unlikely alliance travels back in time to reverse the upcoming doom.
“The Rise of Red” may even feature a young version of Cinderella, this time named Ella, played by actress Morgan Dudley. Norwood’s character of Cinderella – introduced to fans greater than 25 years ago – will reappear throughout the film. Cinderella will help her daughter discover a method to save Auradon.
“Morgan Dudley is an incredible talent and I have no doubt that she will pass on her magic to Ella,” said Norwood. “It has been an honor to be a part of the Descendants legacy and I can’t wait for fans to see how the new story unfolds!”
“Descendants: The Rise of Red” will premiere on Friday, July 12 on Disney+ and on Disney Channel on Friday, August 9.
