Shortly after Netflix released the first official ‘Good Times’ trailer in late March, ahead of the series’ April 12 premiere, fans of the original ’70s sitcom took to social media to express their frustration with the reboot. Internet users took offense to the recent show’s portrayal of the family, calling it a revival “disrespect and disgust.”

This yr marks the fiftieth anniversary of the premiere of the series “Good Times”. Produced by Norman Lear, the comedy series is taken into account one among the most significant series realistically portraying a working-class black family living in Chicago. The animated Netflix reboot is a refreshed version that follows the story of a brand new generation of the Evans family.

However, fans of the original series were shocked that the animation strayed away from the show’s positive features and as a substitute highlighted negative stereotypes of Black people.

John Amos, who played patriarch James Evans on the Nineteen Seventies sitcom, and BernNadette Stanis, who was Thelma Evans’ daughter, spoke with Hollywood reporter, and Amos explained that newer designs have difficulty achieving the same quality as the original.

“Norman – along with the entire cast and crew – set the bar pretty high,” Amos said. “They will have a hard time achieving that level of entertainment (and) education. I wish them all the best. I see people aspiring to it, but I don’t see anyone achieving it, especially in the animated version.”

However, Amos said that “I really can’t give my opinion” on the animated reboot “because I haven’t seen any of the episodes yet.”

Meanwhile, Stanis admitted that Good Times fans can have assumed that the original cast would helm the revival.

“A lot of times, using a certain name opens the door to a new show,” Stanis said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “This could also be what it’s. But I’m sure lots of people shall be just a little confused at first because they’ll have to think it’s us. They think, “Oh my God! It has to be Thelma, JJ (Jimmie Walker) and Michael (Ralph Carter). And you then go in there and you do not see anything like that.

Although Stanis isn’t the foremost character of the series, she has lent her voice to a minor character in the series. “I gave them just a little voice, but I didn’t understand it could be what it was. I assumed it might be different,” Stanis said.

Viewers can also expect to hear the voices of JB Smoove, Yvette Nicole Brown, Jay Pharoah, Marsai Martin and Gerald “Slink” Johnson, who make up the foremost cast of the animation.
