Jerrod Carmichael says Dave Chappelle wanted a public apology for criticizing transgender jokes

Jerrod Carmichael sheds light on his tension with Dave Chappelle. The “Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show” star recently opened as much as Esquire about her relationship with Chappelle following comments about him in 2022.
How Diversity emphasizes Carmichael criticized Chappelle two years ago in an interview with GQ, commenting on the comedian’s controversial jokes geared toward the trans community. He then told the web site: “Chappelle, do you recognize what comes up whenever you type your name into Google, brother? This is a legacy? Is your legacy a collection of opinions on trans s–t? It’s a strange hill to die on.
Earlier this yr, in an interview with Esquire, Carmichael detailed his relationship with the comedian, revealing that Chappelle told him that his 2022 Emmy-winning special “Rothaniel” was “the boldest special of 1996.” As Grio previously reported, Carmichael got here out of hiding within the special.
“And that’s actually a pretty funny sentence, whatever, but I wonder if he understands the irony that the fact that you were mocking it was the reason it was hard,” Carmichael told Esquire. When talking about Chapelle’s reactions to his comments within the GQ article, he explained: “He took it as a ‘fuck Dave Chappelle’ because he’s an egomaniac.” He wanted me to apologize publicly or something.
He also took the time to make clear his original comments, saying that he thought Chappelle was “smarter” and “deeper” than his latest material. He said Chappelle “doesn’t reveal anything personal about himself and is removed from what he’s talking about, and I think he’s smarter and deeper and has more interesting thoughts.”
