Lebron James was busy this weekend as he competed in the inaugural NBA In-Season Tournament Championship on December 9 and on December 10, he watched his son Bronny’s debut on the University of Southern California.

James proved that he continues to be a force to be reckoned with in the league after he and the Los Angeles Lakers shutout the Indiana Pacers in the ultimate game of the newly formed midseason tournament. In a winner-take-all game, the 38-year-old recorded a double-double of 24 points and 11 rebounds.

Despite losing to teammate Anthony Davis, who scored 41 points, grabbed 20 rebounds and blocked five shots, James won his first tournament MVP of the season. Although he added some more gear to his locker and was rewarded with half 1,000,000 dollars for winning the tournament, that probably wasn’t the highlight of James’ weekend.

The next day, King James flew back to Southern California to attend the USC Trojans vs. Long Beach State 49ers game. This game had huge significance for James and his family since it was the primary time LeBron’s son, Bronny James, played on the court for the reason that shocking cardiac arrest he suffered over the summer.

During summer practice on July 24, Bronny’s heart stopped without notice and he went into cardiac arrest. He received cardiopulmonary resuscitation and assistance from a defibrillator before being taken to the hospital.

After visits to other health centers equivalent to the Minnesota Mayo Clinic, the James Family Foundation released a press release saying it was an “anatomically and functionally significant congenital heart defect.” The family said they’re “very confident” in Bronny’s recovery and hope he’ll return to the basketball court ultimately.

Their confidence paid off when Bronny was substituted in the match played on 10 December. The young teenager played for 17 minutes and his statistics included 4 points, three rebounds, two assists and one block. This block in particular made fans think they were seeing double, because it closely resembled James’ well-known 2016 rush block.

Fans said: “The apple didn’t fall too far from the tree. He plays defense like his dad”, “JUST LIKE A KING!!!!” and “You just know LeBron taught him that.”

Although the Trojans ultimately lost the sport in additional time, James still viewed it as a victory for his son. In Instagram after posting concerning the game, the proud dad wrote: “I can’t even tell you how exciting today was for me! I am literally exhausted and all I can say is @bronny you are just AMAZING!!”

He continued: “Damn, what wins and losses there will be. You have already achieved the ultimate goal/mastery and that is LIFE!!! I’m proud of you, kid, because you gave me more life today! Thank you and I love you.”

While many fans congratulated James and understood his pride in Bronny, others dissected a particular a part of his caption. After the four-time NBA Finals champion said “you gave me more life,” some fans wondered if that meant he would extend his playing profession.

James has previously said his goal now could be to play in the NBA with his son. With Bronny recovering and James still in great shape, there’s a probability that fans could see the father-son duo playing together in the near future.
