Former RNC chairman Michael Steele calls Trump a ‘visceral animal’
Michael Steele, former chairman of the Republican National Committee, described presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump as a “visceral animal” after Donald Trump shared a video of a photo on the tailgate of a truck showing President Joe Biden tied up within the bed of a pickup truck.
As Steele, now a political analyst at , reports, described Trump’s behavior on social media during an episode of The Weekend.
“This concept (pondering before speaking) is well above Donald Trump’s pay grade, or a minimum of, I believe, his mental capability because he’s an instinctive animal in politics and business. He seems like what he’s saying is true and I believe that is a part of the issue on this environment because he thinks what he’s saying is true.”
During the conversation, Steele hinted that the legal system has given Trump roughly freedom to attack people, as he did within the case of Judge Juan Merchan and his daughter. Merchan, who’s presiding over the trial over Trump’s secret payments, has issued a silence order that limits Trump’s public comments on the matter.
In a recent social media update, the previous president suggested, without justification, that Judge Merchan was capitulating to the political agenda of his daughter, a Democratic political consultant. He further asserted – claims later rejected by judicial authorities – that she had shared a photo on social media showing Trump behind bars.
However, the order of silence didn’t cover conversations about Merchan and his family, which Steele accused Trump of cynically exploiting. During the conversation, Steele said he was confused why the courts seemed reluctant to erect clear guardrails around Trump.
– I mean, I do not understand it in any respect. “I’m baffled as to why the system still doesn’t respond to the object in front of it,” Steele said.
Biden campaign replied to Trump’s post referring to a 2020 election debate moderated by Chris Wallace when Trump told the Proud Boys, a far-right militant group, to back off and stay on the sidelines.
“This photo of Donald Trump is the bullshit you post when you are calling for a bloodbath or telling the Proud Boys to ‘stand back and stand by,’” said Michael Tyler, Biden campaign communications director.
Tyler concluded his speech with a reference to the January 6 riot, which Trump is accused of inciting together with his rhetoric. “Trump has regularly incited political violence, and it’s time for people to take him seriously – just ask the Capitol Police officers who were attacked defending our democracy on January 6.”
Meanwhile, as Trump reports campaign spokesman Steven Cheung defended Trump. “That photo was in the back of a pickup truck driving down the highway.” Cheung also claimed that Democrats are calling for violence against Trump, saying, “Democrats and crazy lunatics are actually using the justice system as a weapon against him.”
