Reginald Scott and his family began the brand new 12 months with a rude awakening after discovering their car had been vandalized. Someone painted racist slurs and swastikas on his red Ford Mustang black spray paint.
According to the Scott family, the incident occurred in some unspecified time in the future around holidaysbetween Christmas and New Year.
“I couldn’t believe this happened to me in San Pedro,” he said California – said the resident.
On one side Sports carvandal-proof spray painted the message in large letters: “Merry Christmas N-word.”
On the opposite hand suspicious he painted many imperceptible letters. In addition, “[s]”Wastikas were painted on the bumper and the vehicle’s tires were slashed.”
Even their neighbors expressed outrage at this crime. Paweł Frias, a neighbor victims stated, “It’s just something bad because they flattened the tires, damaged them… It’s just something you do not need to see day by day because, ‘What if that may very well be my vehicle?’
According to KTLApolice are investigating this case as a hate crime.
Unfortunately, this is not the primary time the Scott family has been targeted. Last Halloween, Scott said KTLA5 about one other case of vandalism. “They slashed the tires on my truck and sprayed them with something to the point where I thought, ‘They’re starting to raise them and we’re starting to get scared to be in that place.'”
Scott also reported that two years ago, someone actually turned on his truck fire.
Understandably his wife is extremely concerned in regards to the safety of her family following repeated and escalating “instances of targeted vandalism”.
“She doesn’t want the door open,” he says Scott. “He’s pretty much on high alert.”
Scott “has filed a police report for the vandalism and is hopeful that the suspects will be caught soon.” But within the meantime family they’re shocked by what happened and are considering moving the family to a safer place. They founded, amongst others: GoFundMe hold those that need to contribute accountable.
In the wake of the most recent act of vandalism against the Scott family: Tim McOsker, City of Los Angeles member of the Council, issued a statement. “I have spoken with the management of the Los Angeles Harbor Department and we are absolutely confident that whoever vandalized Mr. Scott’s car will be found and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, especially as a hate crime.”
“The words and symbols spray-painted on a car cause real, tangible terror and harm to our neighbors and our community. I do not take this calmly,” he continued McOsker.
“I spoke to Mr. and Mrs. Scott to offer my support as they go through the unimaginable pain their family is currently facing.” McOsker added. “This crime is hateful, deplorable and has no place here in the 15th Council District or anywhere else.”
