Why do some rappers support Trump?
Why do so many rappers appear to support Trump? His not only Kanye. There’s also Benny the Butcher, who tweeted that he was voting for Trump. There’s Sexxy Red, who said in an interview that “they support (Trump) within the hood” Why? She said yes due to stimulus checks Americans received during Covid-19. Is Kodak in black, whom Trump broke out of prison. Is Waka Herd. There’s more. What’s happening? A couple of things.
One of the foremost reasons some rappers like Trump is that they’re interested in the way in which Trump seems to exude power. His personality and propaganda suggest (to some) that he is powerful and difficult. For many rappers, the calculus is similar because it is for a lot of Trump voters – supporting a Trump who appears strong makes you’re feeling and appear strong. Kanye, who might be probably the most famous rapper to support Trump, once said that wearing a MAGA hat gave him a tough time. “There was something about when I put that hat on, I felt like Superman” he said. I would like to vomit. Let’s proceed.
Another reason some rappers may like Trump is because he attracts their attention. In the eye economy that’s hip-hop, it’s extremely necessary to have people talking about you. Supporting Trump will definitely attract attention. It’s a contradictory move within the Black community – you’re taking a minority stance and that gets their attention. Yes, some of us will hate you for supporting Trump, but these rappers are taking an “all news is good” approach.

At the top of the day, rappers are normal people, and like most Trumpers, most of their support for Trump relies on alternative facts and misinformation. We’ve all seen videos where reporters ask Trump why they support him and so they say it is not true. I saw one today where a girl said she liked Trump because “he all the time tells the reality” Are you serious?
Sexxy Red said this in an interview likes Trump due to Covid-19 stimulus checks nonetheless, these audits were a Democrat initiative and other people who really understand this issue are expressing this to former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Not Trump. To acknowledge Trump is to misunderstand what really happened. But just about all support for Trump relies on a misunderstanding of reality.
There can be a gaggle of people that saw Trump bailing them or their close friends out of prison. Kodak Black was pardoned by Trump in 2021 after doing so sentenced to 46 months in jail for lying on a background check to purchase 4 guns. Lil Wayne was also pardoned by Trump and Snoop Dogg now claims he has no problem with Trump after the pardon of Michael Harris, considered one of the co-founders of Death Row Records. I am unable to entirely blame the people on this group. If the president made an enormous, tangible change in your life, reminiscent of bailing you or a detailed friend out of prison, it would definitely soften your view of that person.
But there may be also something hidden on this query – why do rappers support Trump? This is surprising because rappers are alleged to be political and progressive, right? It’s kind of unusual because we expect rappers to be politically involved or something. In the ’80s and ’90s, it was common to see rappers focused on politics – Public Enemy, X-Clan, Poor Righteous Teachers, KRS-One, Ice Cube, Queen Latifah and Tupac were just some of the MCs who were so political within the scene microphone that they looked like activists. Their voices seemed that hip-hop was progressive and political, despite the fact that many MCs on the time had no real interest in politics. Contemporary hip-hop doesn’t have such a powerful political wing. Nowadays, rappers talk much less about politics and think way more about branding, being widely accepted and constructing generational wealth for themselves. Overall, hip-hop has lost the political backbone it once had.
Given this, it is not surprising that hip hop on the whole has moved away from being overtly political and a small group of rappers have switched to Trump. I say just a little bit because while some rappers are Trumps, I’m sure the overwhelming majority of MCs are Democrats, in the event that they vote in any respect, since the overwhelming majority most blacks vote Democrat in the event that they vote.
