Green Bay Packers safety Jonathan Owens claims it was his wife, Olympic gold medalist gymnast Simone Biles, who “hooked” him up using celebrity dating app Raya.

Owens appeared on “The Pivot Podcast” on December 19, where he explained to hosts Ryan Clark, Fred Taylor and Channing Crowder how he met his wife. The 28-year-old revealed that after the match, Biles was the first to send him a message via an exclusive app. He added that he didn’t know much about gymnastics at the time.

After Crowder asked him, “How the hell did you pull Simone Biles?” Ownes laughed and replied, “That really got me so, man. That is the query.”

Owens then described the “organic story” of the duo’s meeting on Raya, while Biles, 26, watched from the sidelines and interjected from time to time. The former Texas player said he had been living in Houston for seven months when a friend told him about the app and got here across Biles’ account.

“I’ve literally been on the app for a few days now, man, and it was like this came up and I was like, ‘Let me see who this is.’ Gymnastics. I never…”. I never really paid attention to gymnastics, so it piqued my curiosity,” Owens said. “I’ll see what happens. I swiped it and it showed that we matched.

The 28-year-old recalls that he put his phone away to “work out” and when he returned, Biles found his personal social media page.

“So I go to practice, I come back and I got some likes on my Instagram,” he continued, while Biles smiled from the sidelines. “I thought, ‘OK, so I understand what’s going on,’ but I still waited. “I’ll wait until I take a shower and everything.” I continued to wait… after which I went back to my phone and he or she texted me on the app: “Hey.”

Owens added that he didn’t know who Biles was before they matched on Raya, but the pair connected and met just days after matching on the app. “We got along right away,” he added. “The rest is history.”

Taylor then tried to confuse the situation by asking Owens, “So you really were the catch?” The NFL’s safety team responded, “I always say that’s the catch on that guy,” before adding that he initially didn’t want to get entangled.

“I was afraid to commit,” he said. “I assumed, ‘Oh man, that is my third yr (in the NFL). You know, I’m trying, ahhh,’ I said, ‘It’s somewhat early.’ But you know, like I said, it happens whenever you least expect it. And we frolicked, man, we hit it off instantly and we were just laughing all night long.

After meeting on the app in 2020, Owens and Biles began dating, and the day after Valentine’s Day, they revealed their engagement in February 2022. The couple married earlier this yr at a Houston courthouse in April, followed by a second ceremony in Cabo San Lucas in Mexico in May.

While their marriage should still be in the honeymoon phase, Biles is busy setting the record straight, denying rumors that the couple is expecting their first child after fans speculated earlier this month that she was pregnant.

In response to negative criticism for not knowing who Biles was, Owens shared a celebratory post featuring photos from their whimsical wedding day and two more moderen photos of the couple together. “I do not care. Just know that we’re locked in here,” he captioned the photo post with a laughing emoji and one other with a red heart.

Biles proudly replied in his comments section, “…for life.” On her Instagram page, she wrote “mood” as the caption to a photograph of her and Owens at the wedding, showing off their pearly white teeth.
