Letitia James stays classy while MAGA firefighters chant “Trump!” During her speech at an FDNY ceremony honoring the first black female chaplain
New York Attorney General Letitia James’ speech at a New York Fire Department promotion ceremony was interrupted by jeers and chants in support of former President Donald Trump.
Numerous audience members applauded and booed James as she was introduced.
“Oh come on, we’re in God’s house,” James said as the taunts continued. “Simmer. Thank you. Thank you for getting this out of your system.
It was only during James’ remarks, when she was honoring the inauguration of the Rev. Pamela Holmes – the FDNY’s first black chaplain – that some audience members erupted in cheers and others began chanting “Trump! Trump! Trump!”
After the ceremony, FDNY Division Chief John Hodgens sent a press release to Newsweek saying: “Today’s ceremony was about one thing: the achievements of the promoted members. The members whose behavior distracted from the festivities were embarrassing and didn’t slot in with the best fire department in the world.
Last yr, James filed a civil lawsuit against Trump and his eldest sons for illegally inflating Trump’s net price and various assets and properties to be able to secure business deals. A judge found Trump accountable for fraud and ruled he must pay greater than $450 million in penalties. He can be banned from running a business or applying for bank loans in New York for 3 years.
The troubled former president launched quite a few attacks on James, claiming she was “corrupt” and “racist.” During the civil trial, he even stated that James “sat comfortably and confidently in court…with his shoes off, his arms crossed, a Starbucks coffee and a BIG smile on his face.”
He has repeatedly argued that James’ lawsuit, together with quite a few indictments in other states, is a component of a “witch hunt” organized by Democrats.
Trump’s legal team has said it should appeal the verdict in his civil fraud case in New York, but to accomplish that the former president may have to post a bond by March 25 in the amount of the full amount he owes the state in civil penalties. If he fails to accomplish that, if he fails to pay by this date, James will find a way to start confiscation of his assets to satisfy the positive.
Despite the mixed reception from Thursday’s audience amongst fire department staff members, James spared no emotion in her speech. She even ended her remarks by showing special gratitude and respect for many who mocked her.
“Some people even boo me, but I pray for them anyway,” she said.
You can watch the ceremony below. James’ remarks begin at 52:00.
