Remember when Jidenna appeared on the show in 2016? Back when he was the ‘classic man’, the singer and rapper appeared in all his glory in the primary season as Chris, Yvonne Orji’s on-screen partner from the highly selective online dating site, . (If you do not remember, Molly, played by Orji, also by some means managed to spoil this relationship).

Many years later, this on-screen “couple” recalled their time working together Live chat on ESSENCE Instagram last week. Jidenna revealed that he’s able to return to the hit HBO series, and truthfully, we would be here for it. “I’ve been pitching for about four years. [Creator] Issa [Rae] he doesn’t do that,” Jidenna joked.

“I was watching all these motherfuckers,” he continued, referring to Orji’s on-screen interests. “Andrew actually reminds me a little bit of my real self… You know, the last episode was all about being ‘apparently distant,’ so it didn’t give access to her. I give access, I am quite open, but I will not discuss certain topics.”

During the discussion, the pair delved into their relationship with Orji, asking Jidenna, “What would you warn someone before they get into a relationship with you?”

Jidenna noticed two distinct elements of his personality that were completely different from one another – his desire to work hard and his must prioritize his family.

“There’s my father, who I had a love/hate relationship with as a child,” he replied. “He worked so much, had a desk arrange and built a pc within the front room. Which made me say:

The “Tribe” singer added, “Then I remember this scene once I was in search of a father figure to see and he had just come back from some city, sitting at his desk, working and writing a book speech. [Malcolm X’s wife] Betty Shabazz is available in and says, “You need to get some rest.” And he replies, “I’ll be there, Betty, I have to finish my speech, people need me.” And she says, “No, the family needs you.”

Reflecting on the scene, Jidenna noted, “I looked as much as him. And now I do not do this.

“He is a human being, a human being like all of us,” he continued. “But I don’t desire to be that guy – at the least not that bit. I don’t desire to be a man for whom mission and profession are more necessary than love. I would like to be pretty much as good in my relationship as I’m in my profession.

While we may not see Jidenna, check HBO on Sunday nights.
