DL Hughley claims he hasn’t spoken to his eldest child in weeks, then slams Mo’Nique for ‘weaponising’ her daughter’s sexual trauma after messy headliner dispute
DL Hughley says he won’t ever have respect for Mo’Nique again. The comedians have been arguing for two years, although in the case of the actress the dispute goes back even further.
However, in 2022, a dispute over who was to headline a comedy show on the Fox Theater in Detroit leaked into the general public eye when Mo’Nique used a business issue to engage his wife and youngest daughter, Tyler Hughley, in a verbal brawl.
At one point, she began to wonder how his wife, LaDonna Hughley, could endure being intimate with her husband for greater than 30 years after his public comments about Tyler’s sexual assault by a family friend several years earlier.
DL admitted that he didn’t consider his daughter when she told him in regards to the incident, claiming that she would “never get it back” because he failed to protect her. Mo’Nique used this defenseless introduction as ammunition.
“You see, DL didn’t believe his own daughter and not his friend because he obviously likes his friend more than his own daughter and didn’t want to be bothered by an inconvenient truth… I think it’s funny that DL will scream Ice Cube… me etc. but he will not say the name of the person who raped his daughter,” she wrote, re-sharing a clip of her talking about it on “Sway In the Morning.”

In a recent interview with “The Jason Lee Podcast,” he claimed that the low-side jab was “uncallable” and revealed that the heated tirade Mo’Nique threw at him and his family strained his relationship with his youngest daughter.
Hughley said her “use of this weapon (sexual assault) and using it in a trivial argument shows exactly how low you are… You are a monster.” You literally are. You didn’t play Precious’ mother. You let her go.
Ryan Shepherd, DL’s oldest daughter, also addressed Mo’Nique, telling the comic that she had crossed the road by intentionally hurting two black women, LaDonna and Tyler. The Oscar winner apologized to her family for the error, but her words mean nothing to DL
In an interview with Lee, the “Brothers” actor said, “I tried to be as cordial as possible; Now I’m in trouble in my own fucking circle because of some things you decided to do. So now we have to finish this dance… I despise the thought of anyone dragging my name.
The veteran entertainer explained that his name was illegally thrown into Mo’Nique’s ongoing story about being ostracized from the industry when she was angered by an inappropriate question about her husband performing a sexual act on a man during a game of Would You Rather? with the co-host of DL radio.
Hughley was not present during the taping, but allowed her to appear on the show at the time because few other platforms were welcoming to Mo’Nique after she slammed Oprah Winfrey, Tyler Perry and Lee Daniels. This segment was never aired and only became public information recently when the star of “The Pakers” stated that it was him the catalyst for their dispute during the “Club Shay Shay” show.
“I agreed when everyone around me said I shouldn’t. If I had said no, we wouldn’t be having this conversation because I believed you were worthy of grace… What did I do that was so terrible that you dragged my daughter’s damn business through the streets of Gotland? What have I done to you other than believe you deserved a chance? Is this something terrible?” – Hughley asked rhetorically during his conversation with Lee.
He continued: “My daughter is very angry with me; she hasn’t talked to me in weeks. … When someone has been through something… when they get triggered, what do you do?” When asked why he carried the burden of the emotional toll that pubic mesh took on his daughter, the previous host of BET’s “Comic View” answered candidly: “Because I have a daughter that I love, and she has someone to be angry at. . That’s how it is.”
“I don’t understand why my daughter’s trauma would win you the argument in a contract dispute,” Hughley added. “I do not understand this. I’m not a victim at all, I take the damn slings and arrows where they come, not her. …We’re here now because you stripped me of my character, because you put me in a place where I’m angry that I have to be in an argument with someone I love. So fuck everything else.
I hate DL Hughley, but what Monique said about DL Hughley’s daughter was all I needed to know what type of woman Monique is. https://t.co/RJnhd2jBLo

But he didn’t stop there. “I hate the situation I’m in right now. I hate this. For no reason at all. If I knew you were so mad about the “king” headline, I wouldn’t care. I’ve got jokes, so don’t worry, no matter who’s in front of me. You destroy something that took me 30 years to build and you think it’s cute. “Fuck you forever,” he concluded.
Mo’Nique is currently struggling with a strained relationship with her estranged son, Shalon Watkins. DL suggested that she treat his children as her own, which her oldest child believes means she doesn’t have him at all.
