A 2012 interview on Girlfriend FM with host Deya Smith-Taylor has resurfaced, prompting some to do a double take at Steve. In the interview, Mary talks about the fallout from her and the Family Feud host’s 2005 divorce.

They were married for nine years and welcomed one son, Wynton Harvey, when Steve threw in the towel on their relationship. Mary publicly accused him of being a serial cheater, amongst other crimes, at the height of their conflict.

Speaking to Smith-Taylor, the mother of 1 says that comparisons of divorce as a sort of death are true, except that “death is closure. For me, there’s no closure. There’s been no closure until today.”

Mary goes on to say that the breakup has devastated her in more ways than one. “Financially, my life is a mess… but it’s been that way since 2005,” she said.

She blames Steve’s influence as a public figure for stopping her from reaching an admirable understanding and ultimately for hindering her contact with their son, who moved in with Steve when he was 13.

“We have a man with power and authority who took advantage of that in a courtroom in a small town in Texas. He was able to manipulate the whole situation to his advantage,” she says. But Mary says their problems began 5 or 6 years before the divorce.

She said she had sought therapy for the entire family and Steve, but to no avail. “I knew it would come to this eventually,” Smith-Taylor said.

The artist’s ex-wife criticized his image as an authority on relationships, which encouraged her to write a book, “Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man,” in which she explained to women where they were making mistakes in their efforts to win over a man.

“We lowered our expectations. We didn’t say well, this man has been married three times, how could he write a book about relationships? How could he be a guru? This man?” he asks rhetorically.

Before their relationship, Steve was married to his first wife, Marcia Harvey, with whom he has twin daughters and a son. They were together for over a decade once they divorced in 1994. Fans have long speculated that he was involved with Mary before their separation was finalized.

Mary says of Steve, “I lost my virtue. My mother raised me to be a virtuous woman, not perfect, but virtuous, who doesn’t lower her standards… I lowered my standards and here we are 16 years later because I didn’t hold myself to the standards my mother set for me.”

Among those norms was not sharing a household before marriage. Mary and Steve lived together for six years before finally marrying in 1996. Elsewhere in the interview, she responded to those that had labeled her an indignant black woman by as an alternative suggesting, “If anyone is acting like they’re looked down on, it’s them.”

The two-part conversation got here to the surface in reference to the recent commentswith one viewer writing, “Here we are 12 years later and Steve’s character has been revealed. The truth always comes out eventually.”

One sympathetic person wrote: “There is nothing worse than a failed relationship with no resolution. All you know is that it’s over and you don’t know why…you can’t talk to him and ask him why or get answers…it’s awful. It’s rude and childish.”

Another said: “This woman can say she stole Steve from his first wife, karma, now she’s crying boo hoo he left you for another girl on the side.” Another comment reads: “Women and men like Steve and Marjorie can have it all, but in the end they both get what they truly deserve!”

In 2017, Mary defendant her ex for $60 million, accusing him of brainwashing, financial abuse, child endangerment and more. The California motion was ultimately dismissed by a U.S. District Judge in Los Angeles. Six years earlier, she posted three videos on YouTube in which she aired her grievances with the actor, saying, “I really need some closure on this.” Although, as the rehashed interview shows, that closure never got here.
