Two Men Convicted of Killing Run-DMC’s Jam Master Jay Nearly 22 Years After the Rap Star’s Death – Andscape

NEW YORK – Two men were convicted of murder Tuesday in reference to the death of Run-DMC Jam star Master Jay, a brazen shooting from 2002 in the rap legend’s studio.
An anonymous federal jury in Brooklyn has reached its verdict in the trial of Karl Jordan Jr. and Ronald Washington.
Jam Master Jay, born Jason Mizell, worked the turntables at Run-DMC, helping hip-hop break into mainstream pop music in the Eighties with hits like “It’s Tricky” and a fresh tackle Aerosmith’s “Walk This Way” . Mizell later began a record label, opened a studio in his old Queens neighborhood and helped usher in other talent, including rapper 50 Cent.
Mizell was shot dead in his studio in front of witnesses October 30, 2002
Like the murders of rap icons Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G in the late Nineteen Nineties, Mizell’s case remained open for years. Authorities were bombarded with suggestions, rumors and theories, but had difficulty getting witnesses to come back forward.
Jordan, 40, was the godson of the famous DJ. Washington, 59, was an old friend who was sleeping at DJ’s sister’s house. Both men were arrested in 2020 and pleaded not guilty.
“Twenty years is a long time to wait for justice,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Artie McConnell told the jury in closing arguments, urging: “Don’t let this go on for another minute.”
The men’s names, or not less than their nicknames, have appeared for a long time in reference to the case. Authorities publicly named Washington a suspect in 2007. Meanwhile, he told the magazine in 2003 that he was outside the studio, heard gunshots and saw “Little D” – one of Jordan’s nicknames – running from the constructing.
Prosecutors argue that each men turned on the rap star over a cocaine deal.
Mizell was part of Run-DMC’s anti-drug message, delivered through a public service announcement and lyrics corresponding to “.” But in response to prosecutors and trial testimonyafter the group’s heyday, he went into debt and moonlighted as a cocaine broker to cover his bills and his customary generosity towards friends.
“He was a man who engaged in the drug game to take care of the people who depended on him,” McConnell said in his summary.
Prosecution witnesses testified that in recent months, Mizella had a plan to acquire 10 kilograms of cocaine and sell it through Jordan, Washington and a dealer in Baltimore. But the Baltimore connection refused to cooperate with Washingtonin response to testimony.
According to prosecutors, Washington and Jordan went after Mizell out of revenge, greed and jealousy.
Two eyewitnesses, a former studio assistant Uriel Rincon and Mizell’s former business manager, Lydia High, testified that Washington locked the door and he ordered High to lie on the floor. She said he brandished a gun.
Rincon identified Jordan as the man who approached Mizell and exchanged friendly greetings moments before shots were fired and one bullet was fired he wounded Rincon himself. Three other people incl a teenage singer who just dropped by to the studio to praise her demo tape, they testified that they were in the next room and heard but didn’t see what happened.
Other witnesses testified that Washington and Jordan made incriminating statements about Mizell’s murder after it happened.
Neither Washington nor Jordan testified. Their lawyers questioned the credibility of key prosecution witnesses and their memories of the long-ago shooting, noting that some initially denied having the ability to discover the assailants or having heard who they were.
“Virtually every witness changed their testimony 180 degrees,” one of Washington’s lawyers, Susan Kellman, told the judge during legal arguments.
Witnesses said they were overwhelmed, didn’t want to supply second-hand information or feared for his or her lives.
Washington’s defense also referred to a retired psychology professor who testified that folks’s memories of any given event can turn into a mixture of what they really experienced and what they later learned.

Charlamagne Tha God blames Kendrick Lamara’s success for the outrageous Kanye West online crash

After a brief break from X, Kanye West returned this week with a series of controversial and disturbing tweets. Many of his posts concerned topics from Kamala Harris, his friendship with Donald Trump and Elon Musk, having “CONTROL” over his wife, and recently protesting that Sean “Diddy” Combs can be released from prison.
In the light of his last positions at X, Charlamagne Tha God, co-host of “The Breakfast Club”, believes that he knows the reason for the last spectacle of Kanye-Chęcie notes, and more precisely the desire to direct the attention of Kendrick Lamar. Charlamagne developed his perspective on February 7 during a discussion together with his co -hosting popular radio program.
Charlamagne began the conversation, coping with sudden support of Ye for Combs “after publishing messages such as” Free Puff “with others. Combs is currently in prison waiting for the trial.
He said, “You know, if he wants to go to Diddy, nothing bad about it, it is on him. But we realize that Kanye was acting all week because he envied Kendrick’s moment, right? “
Jess Chailive, co -host of “The Breakfast Club”, mentioned the recent YE claims that he was diagnosed with autism and that he was not likely bipolar. However, Charlamagne rejected these claims.
“It’s just a pursuit of attention,” said Charlamagne. “He does it because he is jealous of Kendrick’s moment. He regrets that he was because Kendrick has a moment to be a fertile artist who took out his number one OPP, Drake. Kanye regrets that it was at the moment, so he did all these antics to pay attention throughout the week, because he tries to encourage people to do exactly what they are doing now, and he says about him. But Kanye, this is a side to what Kendrick did on Sunday at Grammys and what Kendrick will do this Sunday at Super Bowl. “
Continuing the conversation, Jess Plavious turned to the shocking appearance of Grammys Kanye and Bianka. On the red carpet of censorship they appeared on the headlines after she took off the jacket and shook the “invisible” mini-not dressed, exposing her body to paparazzi.
In response, Charlamagne relied on the historical five victories of Grammy Kendrick Lamar.
“All these fools are cheap, meanwhile you reward people on this scene for their art like it used to be, Kanye,” said Charlamagne. “Kendrick Lamar was awarded five times for the DISS record for your first OPP, you would like you to be you. … we don’t care, Kanye. I don’t care that you are a billionaire, there are plenty of banal bandits. ”
Charlamagne will be on the right track because in February 2 interview In “The Download” with Justin Laboy Kanye had a rather disenchanted response to rapper Compton Kendrick Lamar, beating her common Nemesis, a rapper from Toronto Drake last yr.
He said, “I thought with Kendrick,” Man, why you – did you kill my Nemesis? Where are the movies, if it is not Drake? At least he took him off a bit. ”
Laboy asked you if he thinks Kendrick had finished Drake. He replied: “Yes, for now. You can never count Stepha Curry. This man can get 200 points in one song. “
You and Drake had beef again for a few years. It began to brew around 2018, when the artist Ye Push T won the battle with Drake, revealing that he had a secret son named Adonis. In subsequent years, Ye we and Drake swells over musical differences and loyalty problems.
As for the Charlamagne theory, fans had opinions about whether or not they agreed.
One he said“I actually agree. Entering the manic episode because the ego kills him. “
Someone who disagreed he said“It has nothing to do with Kendrick, you are simply crazy.”
The third that remained neutral wrote“It’s S – T is really sad that I see Lmao.”

“Wings and Prosecco, Baby”: Issa Rae gains real success, Super Bowl plans and is still an awkward black girl – the essence

Los Angeles, California – August 3: Creator and executive producer ISSA Rae participates in the premiere of Hoorae “Sweet Life” on August 2, 2022 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo Robin L Marshall/Getty Images)
When you concentrate on Issa Rae, you may imagine the lifetime of the party (especially should you are just like me and watched from afar since it led these epic events #yachtshit).
After all, she is a girl from Hollywood “IT”, who turned her awkward moments into Emma Nominated Television (and probably certainly one of the biggest programs of all time), and then introduced this success in the developing business empire covering entertainment, beauty and beauty II beauty and beauty I beauty II Beauty and beauty II Beauty and beauty and beauty and beauty and beauty and beauty and beauty and beauty and beauty and beauty and ghosts. But real Issa? He still wonders where he is watching Super Bowl.
“I’m trying to find a sofa,” he tells me laughing. “I was thinking about hosting, but then I don’t feel like cleaning. So I try to dirty someone’s house and of course bring all snacks and accommodation. “
Her spread Super Bowl can be an ideal reflection of her evolution from the related storyteller to the founding father of the luxury brand: “Wings and Prosecco, Baby. I am now from both worlds – he says, probably referring to his own Prosecco, Viaiae line. And like many random football fans, she improved the art of selective commitment: “I really like an excellent last quarter. So then I tune where I’m: “Oh, I paid attention all the time”, when it is really, very stressful. “
Our chat is the first Rae commercial in Super Bowl for TurbotaxBut our conversation reveals something more interesting about certainly one of the most influential entertainment voices: how she learned to face the challenges, whether funds or fitness.
“Before I avoided it because the money is difficult, taxes is difficult,” he admits about his early profession days. “I remember as soon as I had a job, where … I was out of the study and I had to pay taxes, I put it down. I thought, “Well, how will they know?” And they know. Knowledge. “
The same determination, to do things otherwise, appears in unexpected places. “I never thought I would be a runner because it’s just difficult,” he shares. “I was like, I have to run outside. What if it’s hot? What if it rains, my knees, everything. And then, when I got a treadmill, now I love running and became part of my type of meditation process. “Asked if we’ll soon see her in a club or marathon, this laughs – although with the characteristic determination of Capricorn, she doesn’t exclude it completely.
Continuing to construct your entertainment portfolio, including the recent edition of Keke Palmer and Sha, Rae’s has monuments in the field of dream cooperation. “I really want to work with Regina Hall in a comedy film,” he reveals. “I was one of the first, I would probably say that the celebrities I have ever written with the project. And we just never had the opportunity to do it … I always hit her every year: “Girl, I work on it.” And she says: “Okay, what is it?”
At a time when the entertainment industry and the whole world feel particularly chaotic, Rae has found its own approach to maintain balance. “I think it’s good and bad, but tuning like many other people, and simply focusing on literally on things that bring me joy and finding inspiration in small things,” he explains. “For me, my work is an escape and I am lucky to be able to tune it up and just come up with how to help in your own community. And this is the only way I can remain reasonable. “
Despite the growing empire and public figure from a greater than life, Rae quickly dispels one common misunderstanding. “People assume that I am like the life of a party when I am really so quiet and I have to feel comfortable in my zone,” he says. “People have developed this:” You know how you can party personality “and I say:” Oh, no. I’m literally an awkward black girl. I just could feel comfortable. “
This 12 months, he desires to help emerging creations and entrepreneurs in submitting taxes easier and more freed from stress than ever. After all, her financial advice comes from personal experience: “If you don’t want to invest in yourself, you can’t ask anyone to invest in you … Sometimes creativity will look for this money in advance, because they don’t have it, but also just save. Save because you have a job, put some money. “He adds a characteristic honesty:” Unfortunately, I started to debt credit cards, ultimately buying a camera, but it paid off. I think being wise because of the money you put aside to realize your creative efforts. “
